Common boiler problems we fix

• No heating or hot water, or hot water but no heating
• Low or dropping pressure: the boiler keeps needing topping up, often because of a leak or a failed expansion vessel
• Fault or lockout codes and boilers that keep switching off
• Leaks from the boiler, pipework or pressure relief valve
• Strange noises such as banging, gurgling or whistling (kettling)
• Frozen condensate pipes in cold weather
• Radiators not heating properly: cold spots, cold rooms or radiators cold at the bottom

Before you call: quick checks

Some problems you can check safely yourself:

• Is there gas to other appliances, and is your prepayment meter in credit?
• Is the boiler's pressure gauge between about 1 and 1.5 bar when cold? (Check your manual.)
• Are the thermostat and timer set correctly, with working batteries?
• In freezing weather, is the white plastic condensate pipe outside frozen?

Never remove the boiler casing. Only a Gas Safe registered engineer should work inside a gas appliance.

What happens when we visit

Our engineer carries out safety checks, diagnoses the fault and explains what's wrong and what the repair will cost before doing the work. Many common parts can be fitted on the first visit. If a part has to be ordered, we'll tell you how long it will take. If your boiler is old and the repair costs more than it's worth, we'll tell you honestly and give you a price for a replacement as well.
